yes, a little late for the layout for the application but here it goes, I've had a look at the more popular and most used applications around these years. I have to point out that these are not The Most Popular apps statistically, but they are quite common. The honour roll includes; Powerpoint, Photoshop, Mail, Firefox and iTunes.
Powerpoint Note that the side navigation bar is on the right, not the left. Plus a bottom bar, but mainly on the top. This is mainly the same for most microsoft products. Yet as I don't have many navigation areas to go to, I'll go for a more simple approach.

Mail Note the simpleness of the whole thing. It just looks swarve. On the left there'll be a nav bar for the individual files that one'll add onto the thing, which would be list sort of format. On the top bar, there would be file (New, Open, Save, Preferences, Print, Quit), Import (Movie..., Sound..., Flash...), Export (Internet, File), Donate. The last is for my worthy self. To add a link to the next clue, or another story segment (in other words, the imput could lead you to the next story clue, onto another diversion of the story line or lastly give you the fail signal and you need to imput an acceptable answer before moving on.
That is exactly what I'll do as soon as I get home.

So, I've looked at the other presentations. They start with - I should start looking at flash - You can affect feedback by the level of design - People, contrary to what I originally thought may want limitless info, rather than consider it overloading - You need to consider the packaging of the program, especially under a module system - Menu Design ** Prefer a mixed menu (that is customisable and large) - Prefer Portrait rather than landscape - The ability to tab without interfering - The possible need to personalise - To point to a specific space, in photo hear from. Work pictorially etc - Possibly learn the preferences of the user (art/history etc) - Sort this info into groups And look, lo and behold, someone has found my idea already and made it as a corporate event. To update
Concept The idea is still to place players into a world (whilst still in reality). Clues steer the experience, whether audio, video or interactive - which allows you to discover the enviroment whist in a vercitile medium.
Research This included making a sample of what a Write could be, and then showing it to a panel of 6 potential users to brainstorm the idea and possible problems one could face. in making the sample, it was found that over 20 hours were needed to create it. Plus to make the sample, I used a digital camera, tripod and movie, which would further constrain the prospect of making this. As found by the ABS, the amount of people who spend money on video cameras are roughly the same as those who would spend money on live theatre tickets. Another issue would be the quality of it all, sound and visually. Lastly, one user had the notable concern of the potential commercaility of storybook. Making it 'One giant shopping channel'.
Fiction It was decided that you would have taking pre-existing stories and placing them into this format. Writes are under such constraints; the area that the user is in needs to be small and accessable, the write needs to be completed in a short time and cheaply (preferably no money involved to participate) and lastly the actions need to be socially and legally acceptable. All other fictional items come under the much broarder construct of the Writes being created with the iPhone in mind.
Business/Tourism As you travel, you upload the tourist information (a tour) from a limitless internet on the spot, on location and on demand. Lonely Planet was sold to BBC Worldwide for $250 million and its founders said that the internet was one of their main reasons for the sale, as BBC has the capability for this expansion. Write also gives the capability for small businesses to have a share and find a new and creative medium for advertising.
Business/ Education Storybook allows students to express themselves and learn the foundations of a good story. After talking to some teachers, the main issue is keeping the idea attractive to students whilst having an educational value (3 Rs). Another problem is the average age of Maths (a general topic) teachers in Australia is over 35. Thus, one could safely assume that an aging teaching population is going to occur. In a survey carried out by the University of California found that computers were the most frustrating household appliance. 55% reported being sometimes frustrated and 16% frequently frustrated with computers. This study was done on an IBM/PC, rather than MAC, but thats neither here nor there. Other studies have found that people kick and/sware at their computer.
So this blog is to keep whoever reads this schnozzle up to speed.

Picture this, your in a showroom, a formal occasion, with everyone gazing, squinting to see whats on the stage. There, is a website, underneath a red cover waiting to be revealed to the world. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Write Homepage. Instantaneously, streamers launch into the air, balloons fall to the ground and all people gasp at what is to be. But they gasp, not in amazement and admiration, but rather shock. I am not happy with my website. To say that I was would be me trying to spin what I have. The page is like that family friend has, that turns up, smells a bit, wears a jacket that looks like its from Vinnies and makes jokes that aren't funny. That is my webpage. Time for a systematic bag out, the splash page, sure it looks quite fine and a nice idea in retrospect. But the gif does look rundown, and does clip at the edges. And the wood, in trying to look mahogany ends up a shade of poo. We click on. Concept page- well clearly there was no concept. The eye immediatly is drawn to the title, looking like high-school media project and the pen that is over-rated in black and white. We are in the 21st century, lets get some colour in the air. But where is the colour, the damn postit notes. What a sorry waste of time that is. The text looking likes its been hit by a sand blaster, and a colour cordination that would be found in a two dollar shop. Bold for the sake of it. It has no meaning other than they look pretty. Plus stationary, whose idea was that. It was mine, and again I am sorry to revolve a website that most people find a waste of time. Those who do go to office works to receive a certain arousal do need to get psychiatric care. Again with the brown, next we'll be expecting tweed as the next, up-and-coming theme to what looks like a stain on the progress of humanity. I'm not exaggerating. And the pencil shaving does look like a pencil shaving, you can thank the funnyman for that. But to place a piece of litter on the page, does warrant further excommunication back to the land of yester-year. The Teacher page with Aa Bb Cc? Just incase you didn't make the leap to education with the pen, pencil shavings and the big art-class 'Teacher' up top. And lastly the Tourist page. Do I need to go on, tacky picture looks like a cheap pen drawing that is thought to be a good investment at the time, but finds its way inevitably as compost. There we have it, the text is riveting, reminiscent of a used-car salesman proclaiming that you would look hot in a Nissan Pulsar. You've caught the website, but its time to kiss it back and throw it back into the ocean of mindless drivel that is the internet at large.

So would that make it just the i? Apple's new iPod, i predict, will outsell the iPhone. As far as I can see, its a nice copy and paste of the iPhone without the ability to communicate. But who needs that anyway, I certainly don't! On reflection, a question arises. Does this ruin my plan if I want to save some extra simmolians and buy the iPod? Well, at start i thought ohh yes. How sad, means the people who can't afford the phone can't play the game. But then again I pondered. If we upload this program onto the iPod, (can I even upload?) then you can live without the communicating bit. Oh, I've changed the name from storybook (cliché, too much like facebook) to Write. Its short, its catchy and it punches above its weight. And it opens a whole new section on naming. Could the story be a 'wrote', as in 'I have made three wrotes' or 'check out my wrote' or 'I downloaded write, and I'm writing a wrote'. Too linguistically confusing? Oh well

When designing for people to use an app for the iPhone one must consider how old the user will be. If they are under 20, fine. No problems, proceed to step two. But if your user is possibly middle age, then slam on the handbrake and bring your design train to a screeching halt. USA Today found that 32% of all adults are intimidated by computers and afraid they might inflict damage when operating them. This is because technology has passed them by, and when it comes to sending that quick message to Sweden, they bring out the postage stamps. I predict in the year 2020, the only mail that will be sent is freight, as everything from bills to postcards will be sent via the internet. But it is because us internet designers are caught up in our own world, we seem to forget the fact that on the other line, someone is confused. Someone is looking at the screen, their right hand trembling over the mouse, hoping, waiting for someone to hold their left. So my mission for my readership of naught? Help out a fellow user, and make the internet a better place...

I have had thoughts on my webpage too! For the idea, pages would be concept page, link to blog, and a page for the three groups, that is the rookies, students and tourists (I aimed for alliteration in the naming of these groups, but I went with the thought of a form of rhyme. That is the 'r', 's' and 't' are formed from the tounge moving down the roof of your mouth. Try it now...
I'm keeping the rustic theme with the page, something that can be non-threatening (doesn't look technologically savy) and also leave the impression of classic novels. Writing is a considerably old profession, and even though the medium has changed considerably (cave wall to electronic binary) the fundamental basics remain the same. I need to keep this institutional look without being either completly old-hat or having a tacky look (Old greek columns, over-flowing fonts and ye oldie english).
The page will also have a informal appeal to it, being seemingly haphazard, with unordered pages layered in a spontaneous fashion as if one were making a book. This is the users space, where he/she can seemingly be at ease and not tied to formal internet protocol dogma! The title page would be a collection of pages unordered underneath the main title logo. I'm also considering the idea of having everything handwritten. No font possibly required. I wonder how that would go. My handwriting is pretty bad tho.
The main logo is being currently worked on. I came up with a hand flicking through the pages of a blank book, the symbolism peoples. So blatant one may wish to throw up at the sight of it.
